The COVID-19 pandemic has turned the labor market upside down. It has made the construction workforce shortage worse than it has ever been, but it also offers opportunity. With whole industries being shut down for extended periods, a permanent change in the way many service industries operate, and widespread worker dissatisfaction and mobility, there is a great reshuffling of labor supply and demand. Our goal is to take advantage of this.
The Construction Industry Education Foundation has retained Causewave Community Partners to help us reshape the way Western New Yorkers think about working in construction. Causewave has extensive experience working with groups to effect change in their community on everything from Lead Poisoning Prevention to Organ Donor Registry Enrollment. Causewave is uniquely qualified to guide us in changing community perceptions about the construction industry.
Our goals with this initiative are both long and short term. In the short-term we want to bring displaced, unemployed, underemployed, and underrepresented groups into our industry right away. In the long-term we are looking at the education system and what we can do to bring about meaningful change to job decisions young people are making.
If we work together, we can bring fundamental and lasting change to this issue that has plagued our industry for decades. On behalf of the board of the Construction Industry Education Foundation, thank you for your support!
The “12 Days of Christmas” is an in-person and virtual drawing over twelve days, with progressively larger prizes each day. There will be $11,000 in prizes given away over the 12 days! Members will purchase tickets to be entered for the drawing which starts at the Christmas Cocktail Reception on December 10, 2021. The remaining 11 days will be drawn virtually following the cocktail reception. Each day we will release a video announcing the day’s winners with recognition of sponsors and information on the Foundation.
